History:

St. Lazarus’ Catholic Church (Insein)

 

This parish is one of the 14 city parishes. The French Missionaries started their mission here in 1856 with a small church. It became a separate parish in 1922 and Fr. Donohoe being the first Pastor. The present church was dedicated on 19 December 1968 by His Excellency Bishop Victor Bazin. Taungthugone, Nanthagone, Ywama, Phawkan, Danyingone, Peinnegone, and Myothit quarters fall under this parish. According to 2004 statistics, there are 300 Catholic families with 1800 Catholics.
